If people are looking for alternative lifestyles, what’s the matter with “mainstream”? Alternative ways of living are flexible and don’t require compromising your sense of self and options don’t exist in the mainstream world. Having mainstream lifestyle means that you are just following the usual, expected path in the society. The biggest problem is that in “mainstream” there are no options you can choose from and you are not the subject in your life(you can’t decide for yourself). How have lifestyles around the world changed because of the internet and the media? The internet and the media can give all of us greater choice in how we live and what happens in our world. The internet and the media changed the way we interact with one another. It is easier than ever to discover people who share our interests through social media. Internet makes it possible for an unlimited number… Read more »

Question 1:
If you want to live with an alternative lifestyle, you have to create a unique lifestyle. However, according to the article “they call us crazy”, people still like to label free-thinkers negatively. Because of that, you cannot have a unique lifestyle and finally, you will be in the part of the mainstream.

I feel as though that there is nothing wrong with being part of the mainstream. However, I agree with you. Unique lifestyles help people to be less negative.

How have lifestyles around the world changed because of the internet and the media?
It has changed our life style as a recording and charing life style. We as a globalized society started to share the culture of different parts of the world. For example we share the way how different nationality of people celebrate their christmas. Also we tend to record our life. Such as Vlog and Instagram posts.

If people are looking for alternative lifestyles, what’s the matter with “mainstream”?
People believe that the mainstream way of looking for an alternative lifestyle is crowded and not enjoyable anymore. Thus, people want to experience new and exciting things in life. They don’t want to experience the lifestyle that others already have done. They want it to be in their way and be unique. According to ‘Ten Awesome Alternative Lifestyles’, they claim that doing things that is unique to them is very worth while.

1. If people are looking for alternative lifestyles, what’s the matter with “mainstream”? I believe mainstream means a “normal” life from the perspective of most people in a society. Most people have been taught by the “normal” people in our society. This makes our standards and form us to distinguish “normal” and “not normal”. However, I think having different perspectives through various experiences is an important thing to grow ourselves. To have different perspectives, there is no way other than experiencing and being exposed to the environment. Mainstream is not a bad thing, but people need to step out of their “normal” lifestyles and do something special. 2. How have lifestyles around the world changed because of the internet and the media? Because of the technology innovation and invention of the internet, I believe lifestyles around the world had changed to a more non-physical way. Even though the internet and… Read more »

I read the article ten awesome alternative lifestyles and answer question 3.
If people are looking for another lifestyle than now, there is a problem with mainstream life. As I think, the problem of modern society is competition. Since people need to compare themselves to others their whole life, they can be exhausted to compete more, therefore, find other places to relax.

Question 3
I live in Jakarta and the lifestyle of the people changed a lot through the digital world. In Indonesia, there are a lot of people driving or other jobs. This jobs consist of a lot of waiting and free time, which they used 20 years ago with reading, sleeping or just talking. Through the mainstream lifestyle of phones, this changed a lot. People are not that bored as in the past, they can skip the long time of waiting with texting or watching videos on the phone. In my opinion it is a very good lifestyle, which makes life easier and better for the people here.
